NW Hearts Charity Grants 2023

Our first grant awards process is now open!

We want to improve outcomes for people with heart disease around Greater Manchester, and to reduce its impact on lives beyond current NHS provision. To this end, we intend to fund a wide range of projects.

The application process is open to everyone and we encourage you to consider applying, whatever your position or role in your organisation. Our funding criteria and what we will / won't fund can be downloaded by clicking the PDF button.

We will have a 2-stage application process. Stage 1 will be a brief expression of interest form and applications that meet our funding criteria will be invited to apply for the Stage 2 process.

All stage 2 applications will be assessed by an Independent Grants Panel. We are very honoured that this will be chaired by Professor Hugh Montgomery OBE, from University College London. The panel has multidisciplinary expertise from across the GM region, ranging from tertiary, secondary and primary care, along with patient and voluntary sector representation.

What we plan to fund

We will consider awarding individual grants up to a maximum of cost of £25,000. For our first funding round, it is likely that the following projects will be given greater priority:

  • projects that cost up to £10,000

  • projects that are likely to demonstrate rapid short-term benefit (within 12 months).

The application

The application must demonstrate a strong connection to Greater Manchester (GM). The application should have an impact on one of the following:

  • people or communities who live in GM

  • those who live outside of GM who may utilise healthcare services in GM

  • organisations located in GM and their staff / volunteers

The application should demonstrate a close alignment with  one or more of NW Hearts Charity’s funding priorities, namely projects that benefit:

  • people living with heart disease

  • people at risk of heart disease

  • the family and carers of these groups

  • the specialist staff who care for them

  • research into cardiac conditions
