6 Minute walk test
Patient information

This is a test performed to assess your ability to exercise. It is a useful test to determine how your underlying cardiac problem is impacting on your day-to-day life. It is a simple test usually carried out by a member of the nursing team. Your blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen levels will be recorded at the start of the test. You will then be asked to walk around the hospital (usually between 2 chairs) at the fastest pace you are able to walk comfortably. If you experience any symptoms during the test you should let our staff know and you are able to rest on the chairs at any stage during the test if you need to.
