NW Hearts Charity is delighted to award a grant to The Multicultural Resource Centre in Rochdale. The project will provide a community support programme for people living with heart disease, alongside their families and carers, in Rochdale and Oldham.
Abdul Shakoor, Treasurer of the Centre and project lead says:
‘Living with heart disease can be very difficult and stressful, not only for the person with the condition but also for their family and carers. As some of our existing group members have told us, they have difficulty coping. Most of them feel isolated, worried about the future, and unsure where to turn for support. Families and carers often take on a lot of responsibility and stress, yet they may have little time or space to look after their own wellbeing. Our project will help to tackle these challenges by offering local, community-based support that is easy to access and welcoming to all.’
NW Hearts Charity is supporting this local initiative to deliver in-person community support in the form of structured sessions that will:
- Provide practical tools and advice (particularly lifestyle and condition management sessions)
- Create safe spaces for people with heart disease and carers to share experiences and advice.
- Help carers for their own wellbeing with their caring role.
Jane Davison, Project Support Officer at NW Hearts Charity says:
‘This support aims to improve the quality of life and resilience for both patients and their families. By encouraging social connections, reducing isolation, and offering practical tools, we hope people will feel more empowered to cope with the day-to-day challenges of heart disease.’
The funding will also help NW Hearts Charity reach more people within the Rochdale and Oldham area, including those newly diagnosed or unable to access existing support services.
