Wythenshawe Cardiology Department Research Fund (WCDRF)
The Wythenshawe Cardiology Department Research Fund (WCDRF) was set up in 1989 by esteemed senior cardiology clinicians at Wythenshawe Hospital. The aim of the charity was the relief of sickness via medical research into the human cardiovascular system, generally, and drugs and treatments connected therewith and to publish the useful results of such research.
In order to reduce the inequalities in heart health for the people of Greater Manchester, it has become necessary for the charity to focus on improvements in services, facilities, equipment and education, as well as research.
In 2021 a new charity, NW Hearts Charity, was established and the scope widened to encompass all areas of Greater Manchester.
WCDRF remains a charity and is able to support cardiac research projects, over and above what the NHS can provide. Its administration is carried out by its mirrored Board of NW Hearts Charity.
WCDRF is very grateful for the generosity of patients, families and supporters and donations can be made to either charity. Monies raised can be, where desired, protected for use at Wythenshawe Heart Centre.
