An inspirational Cardiologist and a very special man

NW Hearts Charity were privileged to officially open their newly funded courtyard garden at Wythenshawe Hospital’s Acute Coronary Care Unit. The former wasted area has been transformed into a calm and restful place which can be enjoyed by patients, their families and the specialist staff who care for them.

The garden has now been named the Dr Neil Davidson Garden, in memory of the highly respected and loved cardiac consultant who lost his own life to heart disease. Neil’s widow, Sue, his mother, his children and other members of his family joined former colleagues and friends to hear about his life, his work in the field of cardiology and his warmth and generosity to all.

Dr Sanjay Sastry, Consultant Cardiologist and Deputy Medical Director talked about his long-time colleague and friend and unveiled the plaque in his honour. The featured image shows Dr Niall Campbell, Consultant Cardiologist and Chair of the Charity (L) together with Dr Sanjay Sastry.

The charity, which works tirelessly across Greater Manchester to improve services, facilities, equipment and education for those living with, or at risk of, heart disease was proud to have funded such a welcome addition to the unit. Chief Executive, Sue Martin said “We’ve already received a lot of positive comments about how the garden has made such a positive difference to them. Patients tell us that it is great to be able to get away from the constant bleeping of the cardiac monitors, families feel that they can chat more openly in the space and staff feel that it recharges their batteries during a busy and intense shift”

It is hoped that the garden will continue to evolve with plantable shrubs and other gardenalia. Anyone interested in supporting this garden through the provision of any items, a financial donation or support with its upkeep, can contact the charity HERE
