CHARITY GRANT TO TRANSFORM PFO PATIENT EDUCATION THROUGH NEW ONLINE VIDEO

NW Hearts Charity is delighted to announce the award of funding to the Cardiology Department at Wythenshawe Hospital for the development of an innovative online educational video for patients diagnosed with patent foramen ovale (PFO). Dr Contractor, Consultant Cardiologist at Wythenshawe Hospital said:

‘We aim to create an educational video outlining the procedure to close PFO’s which we hope will relieve anxiety, improve understanding and cover commonly asked questions around this procedure and in so doing improve patient care and smooth the clinical pathway with a resource that patients can access when needed and at a time of their choosing.’

The online educational video will:

  • Provide clear, accessible information about PFO, treatment options, and what patients can expect before and after their procedure.
  • Increase patients’ knowledge, support informed decision-making, and ensure consistent information is available to patients and their families.
  •  Be easily accessible, meaning it can be re-watched on multiple occasions.

Jane Davison, Project Support Officer at NW Hearts Charity says:

‘Providing patients with clear, accessible information is an important part of delivering high-quality heart health care, and this video will help people in Greater Manchester better understand what treatment involves, and what to expect throughout their care.  We are pleased to support an initiative that will benefit patients and their families for years to come.’
