NW Hearts Charity has awarded a grant for a new cardiac simulation training initiative at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, Wigan. This funding will support the delivery of advanced simulation-based training,  providing all staff who deal with emergency cardiac situations with opportunities to practice clinical procedures, strengthen teamwork and build confidence.

Sarah Litherland, Catheter Lab Sister, at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, said:

‘Having a robust training package for our team will inevitably have a substantial effect on patient outcomes following Cath Lab emergencies. The staff who take part in these training sessions will have a greater understanding of what emergencies can occur and how to deal with them, giving them confidence to manage these situations.’

NW Hearts is supporting this initiative that will:

• Help healthcare professionals develop and refine the skills needed to deliver exceptional care to patients with heart disease.

• Benefit the wider Greater Manchester population, by providing opportunities for NHS colleagues from across Greater Manchester to utilise the Cardiac Catheter Lab training simulation.
