Professor Darren Green, Nephrologist and Cardio-renal specialist at Salford Royal Hospital has been successful in securing funding from NW Hearts Charity. The grant will fund the creation of an e-alert to optimise the re-introduction of heart failure medication, for patients who are treated for acute kidney injury.
Sue Martin, Operations Manager at the Charity says “After liaising with Professor Green, I have been able to understand how valuable the development of this electronic alert will be in the treatment of combined cardiac and kidney care.
Professor Green commented “We will run this service for 6 months in the first instance and then evaluate the impact from multiple perspectives: clinical outcomes, patient experience, and the potential for impact and cost-effectiveness if introduced at scale. Thank you so much to NW Hearts Charity for enabling us to start this pilot.”
